- Investors’ Weekend in Sark (yearly)
-
A part of the Channel Islands, Sark is essentially self-governing and even features its own parliament. The island has been politically stable for 400 years and has at least two of Europe’s wealthiest entrepreneurs as residents. Those who are lucky enough to live there only need to pay a yearly property tax that is limited to a maximum of GBP4,000. There is no income tax and no need to fill out silly government forms, besides a 2 page tax declaration that I myself tend to get done within less than one minute. Taxes are then often paid in cash, and the island’s electrician doubles up as honorary treasurer of the government.

- 2009 VIP Cruise of the Galapagos Islands
-
Similar in format to the 2008 trip to the Galapagos, we decided to use a large schooner this time (instead of the luxury motor yacht that we had charted the previous year). The Mary-Anne is the archipelago’s most awe-inspiring boat and the trip definitely had a bit of sea-faring romance.

- 2008 VIP Cruise of the Galapagos Islands
-
Located some 1,000 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador, the islands are also one of the world’s most pristine tropical archipelagos. Stunning wildlife both on land as well as below water is the primary attraction, but there are many others. Having been a part-time resident of the islands since 2006, I obviously also know of all the other attractions, including those that you would not find in a tour guide or to which ordinary visitors simply have no access to.

- Annabel’s, Mayfair – regular dinners with readers
-
Established in 1963, Annabel’s is both one of the world’s most exclusive membership clubs as well as quite simply a wonderful institution in its own right. When organizing an evening at Annabel’s, I make it a group of 6 so that over dinner everyone has a chance to talk to everyone else. I have been doing these evenings since 2006, and so far, everyone has quite simply loved them.

There are few things more useful than getting a first-hand impression of a country. That’s why back in 2006 (when investing in Russia was just about to become all the rage), I took close to a dozen readers over to the country’s capital. Having been a founder in a Russian venture, I used my existing contacts to organize for an interesting and fun long weekend.
